TDS recognises its responsibility to protect and preserve the environment and is committed to analysing every aspect of its business in terms of impact on the environment and taking positive action. It endeavours to ensure that all activities are compliant with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and that the principals of the Kyoto Protocol and 2008 Bali Conference are adhered.
To ensure a prosperous, healthy and sustainable future for society, we need to use resources wisely. The Group encourages all employees to participate fully and positively in its environmental policy which is a genuine commitment to improving working practises, with the intent of providing a cleaner and more responsible attitude toward materials, waste and noise.
Its goal is to achieve continuous environmental improvement and comply with all current legislation and, where possible, act in anticipation of future environmental legislation.
TDS is committed to continuous review, evaluation and improvement of its programme through its Quality Management System (ISO 9001). This includes setting targets, and monitoring and reporting on progress towards meeting them, and reactive training and change as required.
Its Environmental policy is endorsed by the Managing Directors, and is communicated to all employees, operatives and suppliers. The policy is reviewed annually and updated as necessary. It forms the basis for setting environmental improvement objectives that influence the way that business is conducted.
On-site Operations
- Improving energy efficiency.
- Minimising impacts associated with odour, noise, effluent and emissions to the atmosphere.
- Reducing the amount of waste.
- Increasing the value recovered from waste before it has been responsibly disposed of.
Disposal
- Where it cannot reduce, by reusing or recycling waste, it ensures that the safest and most responsible means of waste disposal is used under licensed arrangements. All of its waste contractors hold licences to dispose of paint waste and provide the Group with the appropriate legal documentation where appropriate.
Purchasing
- Working in partnership with environmentally responsible suppliers to minimize resources used and pollution associated with its products and operations.
Employees
- Training and communicating with employees to increase the environmental awareness and relevant skills of all who work for it.
Communication
- Communicating its environmental policy and procedures to increase the environmental awareness of suppliers and customers.
Administration
- Focusing on office-based activities to improve energy efficiency and waste recycling and encourages and rewards car-lift share initiatives and work-from-home schemes where appropriate.
Company Vehicles
- Encouraging the principal of a minimum of two operatives per vehicle.
- Acquiring vehicles on a short lease duration, enabling the latest technology in engines to be used. Monitoring fuel consumption of each vehicle, to ensure driver responsibility is maintained.
